Pastor's Message Fr. Alexander Goussetis
I love to read books. I enjoy turning pages of a real tangible book, marking passages of interest, and jotting notes on the side of a page. The nature of books, however, has changed dramatically in a very short time. Being ecologically sensitive, we now have books on Kindle and Nook and other devices that save paper and space.
Books, and learning in general, have been permanently altered with the presence of computers. The internet has practically replaced the library as a place for research and education. Pages of information are accessible on-line about every topic imaginable, including the Orthodox faith.
Because no internet filter exists that helps us determine what is accurate data and what may be a distortion, we must be discerning in what we hope to learn on-line. Below are suggested web sites about the Orthodox faith that you might consider bookmarking. The list includes sources for basic teachings of the faith, blogs, and sites for podcasts. Additional web sites will be featured in coming months in the Annunciator.
Introduction to Orthodox Christianity
You will also find in this “introductory” section detailed information and resources on the lives of saints, byzantine music, iconography, and other cornerstones of the Orthodox faith.

Encyclical of Archbishop Demetrios for the Feast of St. Photios and St. Photios National Shrine Day - February 6, 2012
As we celebrate this feast day of Saint Photios the Confessor and Patriarch of Constantinople, we are also at the beginning of a special time in our worship and in our daily prayers and reflection. We have begun the Triodion period, the three weeks before Great Lent, and a time when the services, readings, and hymns direct our attention toward our need to prepare for Holy Week, the week of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord. We are also called to reflect upon the challenges and struggles of living as Christians and to experience the power and blessings that come through the life of faith.
